The second requirement under the Clery Act calls for the issuance of campus alerts when a serious or ongoing threat has been identified. There are two types of campus alerts under the Clery Act: Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications. While Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications are very similar, there are distinct triggers for each of the alerts. Timely warnings are triggered by an occurrence of a Clery crime which represents an ongoing threat to the campus community, while Emergency Notifications are not limited to prior acts of crime, but rather immediate threats, which may be impending. The University issues campus alerts through a variety of methods such as media releases, hanging posters throughout campus, and posting information on our website, to name a few. The PSU Text service is a method that is reserved for dangerous situations that the community needs to know about right now. Anyone who has enrolled in the system will receive a text message when an alert is released. If you haven’t already, you can enroll to receive text messages by going to p-s-u-a-l-e-r-t dot p-s-u dot e-d-u
